Our Story
A dream that started with one dog — and grew into something amazing
Back in October 2007, we opened The Ruff House with a big dream and a lot of heart. What began as a small family-owned dog daycare with two playgroups and a cozy setup for just four overnight guests has grown into a full-service pet care destination — and we’re so proud of how far we’ve come.
It all started when Micaela was searching for a safe, fun, and trustworthy place for her young Boxer, Vega. The options just didn’t feel right. So with a lifelong love of animals and a background in equine care and management, she decided to build something better — a place where dogs could play, stay, and be loved like family.
But even with all that growth, some things have never changed — like our commitment to safety, quality care, and building real relationships with our clients (both two- and four-legged). We’re still proudly family-owned, not part of a franchise or corporate chain. You’ll often see Michael and Micaela right in the middle of the action — along with their two children and their three lively Boxers.
In 2021, we completed a major remodel and expansion, updating our facility with new safety features and upgraded amenities so we could continue offering the best for our guests and their families. We now have six carefully managed playgroups, luxury boarding suites, grooming services, a self-service dog wash, dog training, a splash pad, a retail store, and even a swimming pool just for pups!
We’re also incredibly proud to be the only pet care facility in the Fox Valley owned and operated by a Certified Professional Animal Care Operator, and the only one in Wisconsin with that distinction and a Certified Professional Dog Trainer at the helm. That means we’re not just passionate — we’re professionally trained to give your pets the care they truly deserve.
The Ruff House is more than just a place for dogs to stay — it’s a hub of community. From sponsoring local charity events and participating in school career days to partnering with area veterinarians and rescue groups, we’re honored to be a trusted part of the lives of so many families.
